Stanburn Primary School in Harrow is a thriving and successful school, supporting approximately 850 children from the local community. Arcadis was tasked with updating the school infrastructure, and sought a principal contractor to support them achieve the excellent results demanded.
Excellent results require, experience, structured planning and a superbly organised team, which is why Arcadis appointed Wensley as principal contractor, continuing our ongoing, successful working partnership.
Working as principal contractor, Wensley’s fully DBS checked team undertook the complete refurbishment and relocation of the reception area. Including installing automated sliding doors and a new hatch to support disabled access, and completing all flooring and decoration. Wensley was also tasked with removing sections of walls to incorporate new glazing, with stunning manifestation.
The pupils, and the local community were excited by the project, the pupils say that Stanburn is like a big family - It is a school where children feel safe. It was Wensley’s aim to ensure the children and community were kept safe, constantly updated on progress, and would be proud of the final results.
Wensley loves to step up to a challenge, and working within a school environment raises its own unique challenges...
With the school remaining open throughout, disruption needed to be kept to a minimum.
The health and safety of pupils, parents and teachers was also of principal importance, expert planning, preparation and management was essential.
Every school strives for improvement and distinction, Stanburn Primary School is no different - Wensley’s hard work helped support Stanburn’s aims and Arcadis’ drive to successfully implement their vision.
Working in partnership with Arcadis and Stanburn, Wensley’s team completed the project within budget, and hit the target of completing the project one week ahead of the planned schedule.
Hitting this target was supported by Wensley handling all the project management requirements. Including approving drawings for all works, handling the design of all technical work and chairing meetings on-site, allowing for quick and successfully solutions to any challenges.
As always, quality and cost was of pre-eminent importance, but Wensley’s focus was to ensure that the school was always open, safe for pupils and teachers, and no one was disturbed by the noise and the movement restraints.
